Travel Technology Association Statement on New Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion

“On behalf of the membership of the Travel Technology Association (Travel Tech), we congratulate Chairwoman Jacky Rosen, Ranking Member Rick Scott and fellow members of the newly created Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion. By establishing this subcommittee, it is clear the U.S. Senate recognizes the importance of the travel and tourism industry to the nation and its economy. Travel Tech looks forward to working with lawmakers to address the many challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our members are on the front lines of travel and tourism around the world, employing more than 31,000 people and serving millions of travelers. We have seen firsthand the demoralizing impact the virus has had on the U.S. and global travel industries. We are encouraged by Congress’ continued vigilance and willingness to provide relief to the American people and the countless businesses that have been devastated in the past year.

“COVID-19 has unquestionably changed the way people think about travel, including everything from their destination choices to their search criteria and health considerations. There are many challenges ahead, but we remain confident that with the right policies and standards in place the travel and tourism industry can rebound safely and securely.”

— Steve Shur, President, Travel Technology Association
