25 Oct Travel Technology Association Joins Dozen of Organizations to Advocate Defeat of Colombia Tax Proposal
The Travel Technology Association (“Travel Tech”), on behalf of its member companies, signed a coalition letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai, expressing concerns with Colombia’s recent digital services tax proposal. If passed, the proposal would change how U.S. and multinational companies operating in Colombia are taxed, overriding agreements codified by the United States-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement adopted in 2012. United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai will soon travel to Colombia to meet with government leaders.
The proposed digital services tax would negatively impact companies investing or exporting to Columbia, including those in the travel technology industry and beyond. A coalition of a dozen advocacy organizations also signed the letter, including: ACT | The App Association; American Chemistry Council; Coalition of Services Industries; Computer & Communications Industry Association; Express Association of America; Information Technology Industry Council; National Foreign Trade Council; Silicon Valley Tax Directors Group; TechNet; U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and United States Council for International Business.
